August Wrap Up

This is definitely my worst month yet. Altogether this month I managed to read 6 books. 6. Last month I nearly read double that! But unfortunately it’s holiday season, which means my work shifts have pretty much doubled and tripled. I have no free time and when I do I’m usually too busy sleeping to do anything else.

The Diviners by Libba Bray
August 2nd
5/5

Just as with Lair of Dreams, I adored this book and so did Goodreads who have it rated as 3.97*. I did read them in the wrong order but they were both amazing and I cannot wait for the next one to come out, whenever that may be. If any of you have not read these two, I would pos-i-tutely recommended them, they’re definitely one of my favourite series to date and you can find out why I loved this one here (x).

The Silent Ones by Ali Knight
August 3rd
3.5/5

While I had been loving this book when it first started, the ending ruined it for me. I just felt like it was a bit of a let down after everything that the novel had been building up towards. However I had enjoyed this up to that point; it had been stacking up to be a great read and I had managed to read most of it instantly. It’s rated at 3.24* on goodreads and you can check out my review here (x).

Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard
August 13th
4/5

This was such an enjoyable read. Rather than being a fictional novel, it read a little bit like a journal and it was so nice reading through all of her lists and even the fun, quirky drawings that Hubbard added as well. Wanderlove has been gifted a 3.91* rating by Goodreads and 4* by myself. Find out why here (x).

The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny
August 14th
4/5

Yet another 4* rating, I enjoyed this book because of it’s old-time detective novel feel. Despite having some serious undercurrents, this book could definitely be compared to the older sort of crime novels. The setting of the novel reminded me a lot of The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling, which was also a good book, and I would recommend it for any crime lovers. Unfortunately I’ve not posted my review of this book yet but it’s currently rated at 4.48* on Goodreads.

How to Be Brave by E. Katherine Kottaras
August 16th
3/5

There were good things and bad things about this novel, all of which rounded to a 3* rating from me. Similarly to my last book, I’ve not yet published this review due to it being an arc but it’s rated at 3.85* on Goodreads.

Heart-Shaped by Siobhán Parkinson
August 17th
1/5

I went into this expecting a fun novel and just didn’t really like it at all. There were many times when I almost considered giving up on this book, just because I found parts of it truly ridiculous. It took a lot of determination for me to stick it through this one. However Goodreads has rated it at 3.24*, so some people have enjoyed it. I have also yet to post my review for this book.

July Wrap Up

It took me so long to start reading this month because I really had a horrible book to start the month off with. However, I followed it up almost instantly with an awesome book so I quickly got straight out of my reading slump. Altogether I managed to read 11 book this month.

GIFTED by Agapé Pereze
July 12th
1/5

I really did not enjoy this book. It took me a total of 10 days to read it and I spent most of the time considering not finishing it because I just really couldn’t get into it. There’s more on that in my review here (x) and on Goodreads it’s been given 2* out of 5.

I Knew You Were Trouble by Paige Toon
July 14th
4/5

Funnily enough, I saw this in my local WH Smiths today and it was so strange seeing an arc that I’d read in a book store!  Despite my review, I think it probably would have been better if I had read the first novel in this series but it is still readable without doing that. My review can be found here, x, and Goodreads gives this book 4.17*.

Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine
July 16th
4/5

I actually loved this book so much! I’m yet to release my review for this one, so I haven’t got an uploaded copy for you all yet, but Goodreads has this rated at 4.07 stars if that is motivation enough to check this out. The writing style (and the characters) in this one actually reminded me a lot of Ally Carter’s books, so you should definitely check this out if you’re a fan of those books~

Lair of Dreams (The Diviners #2) by Libba Bray
July 20th
5/5

adored this book. I hadn’t actually read the Diviners before so when I started this one I was starting out fresh but this book was unputdownable. I probably would have finished it quicker if it wasn’t for my busy work schedule this month. This is the perfect paranormal book and it’s based in the 20’s that gives it a nice little unique spin. It’s currently rated at 4.12 stars on Goodreads and I’m yet to release my review for it.

The Fire Inside by Michelle Bellon
July 22nd
3/5

I wasn’t really impressed by this book to be honest; but nor was I unimpressed. It was a perfectly average book as far as I was concerned as I state in my review here (x). Goodreads rates it at 3.78*.

Ways to Live Forever by Sally Nicholls
July 23rd
4/5

This one was a really sad one. Fans of the Fault in our Stars will probably find this one really good (and possibly sadder). My review for this one can be found here (x) and Goodreads has given it 4.18*.

The Mephisto Club by Tess Gerritsen
July 24th
2/5

While I’m usually a fan of Gerritsen’s novels, this one really didn’t work for me. I would suggest reading one of Tess Gerritsen’s other novels if you want to start them, because her novels are really great, but this one just focused too much on supernatural themes, which I really didn’t want in a murder mystery novel. I cover this more in my review here (x) and it’s rated at 3.98* on Goodreads.

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
July 26th
2/5

I was in love with this book until Yoon threw in a twist that complete ruined this for me. The idea was completely unique and I’d not seen anything like this before really but then it all changed and it just ruined the book for me. Hopefully that’s not the same for everyone though. Fans of the Fault in our Stars and books like that will probably enjoy this one! Goodreads has given it 4.12 stars and my opinion is yet to be published.

Are you still There? by Sarah Lynn Scheerger
July 26th
4/5

This book reminded me so much of Thirteen Reasons Why. I found this so enjoyable and I’ve proceeded to recommend it to all of my friends for when the book is released. It was such a nice twist on the usual mystery-themed YA novels. It’s been given 3.98* on Goodreads and unfortunately my review for this hasn’t been published yet.

Lucky Linus by Gene Gant
July 27th
4/5

This was the first LGBTQIA book I’ve read in a long time (with relationships as the main focus anyway) and I really found it to be a good read. There were a lot of terrible moments where you can’t help but feel terrible for the main character but if you can withstand all of the hardships that he goes through then you’ll probably like this. Goodreads has it rated at 4* as well and you can find my review here, x.

Restless Shadows, Waiting Roads by Yolande Kleinn
July 28th
3/5

This is also rated at 3* on Goodreads. I found this quite good at first but I felt like the book ended too quickly and the sudden plot twist at the end was completely unexpected and not really what I wanted to happen? It’s hard to explain without giving any spoilers but it was an OK short story; I just wish that there was more to the plot.

June Wrap Up

So I did a photo for my June Haul on my instagram but I thought it might be useful for you all to have a masterlist of all the books I read in June plus my reviews for those. I managed to read 13 books during June, which I’m so happy with! You can find them all below, plus links to reviews (if they’re available) and links to places where you can purchase them (ditto).

A Work in Progress
June 4th
5/5

I loved this book and it has 4.58 stars on Goodreads so everyone else must do as well! It is a biography and it did contain a lot of photos but I still found it thoroughly enjoyable. Truthfully you will probably enjoy it more if you are a fan of Connor Franta, but it did involve a lot of advice that I believe would be helpful for anyone. The review for this book can be found here (x).

A Court of Thorns and Roses
June 7th
4/5

Yet another great book and it’s one that everyone is talking about! This book earned 4 stars from me and 4.35 from Goodreads and it definitely deserves them. I’d recommend this to fans of The Wrath and the Dawn and An Ember in the Ashes and you can check out the review here (x).

Amazon | Book Depository

Red Queen
June 10th
4/5

This is very similar to A Court of Thorns and Roses, in that I loved it and so did everyone else! Red Queen received 4 stars from me and has a 4.14 average on Goodreads. My review is here (x) and I’d actually recommend it to the same people I recommended ACoTaR to.

All the Bright Places
June 11th
4.5/5

What an emotional read! This book was so near to five stars for me and I’d suggest reading this if you’re searching for something similar to the Fault in Our Stars. It has 4.21 stars on Goodreads and you can find my review for it here (x).

Amazon | Book Depository

Anna and the French Kiss
June 14th
4/5

Up next is Anna and the French Kiss and this was just one of the cutest books. I think that fans of Jenny Han and Meg Cabot books will love this one! It has 4.1 stars on Goodreads and you can find my review here (x).

Amazon | Book Depository

I Let You Go
June 15th
5/5

This was my favourite book in June. I managed to read all of it within a day because I enjoyed it that much and you can find out why here (x). Goodreads rates it at 4.3 stars and I think anyone who enjoys crime novels will enjoy this one.

Amazon | Book Depository

The Lie
June 21st
2/5

I wasn’t a huge fan of this one but Goodreads has it rated as 3.86 so you could! If you want to hear my opinion, you can find my review here (x) but if you’re a fan of Harlan Coben novels then you might enjoy this one.

Amazon | Book Depository

To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before
June 24th
4.5/5

This was overhyped a heck of a lot but it deserves! The perfect summer read in my opinion and it has a sequel! You can find my review here (x) and Goodreads has it rated at 4.1 stars. I think you’ll love this one if you’re a fan of Sara Shepard books.

Amazon | Book Depository

Thirteen Days of Midnight
June 26th
4/5

Thirteen Days of Midnight is one of the two ARCs I read in June and it was released today so you should check it out if you haven’t already! I’ve unfortunately not written my review yet but it’s rated at 4.40 stars on Goodreads by other early readers and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Darren Shan and Skulduggery Pleasant.

Amazon | Book Depository

Emmy & Oliver
June 29th
4.5/5

This is my second ARC of the month and I adored this book. It’s yet another awesome Summer Read and it’s received 3.94 stars on Goodreads. I do have a review for this and it can be found here (x). It’ll be released on 16th of this month so you should go and preorder it and show it some love! I think you’ll like this if you’re into Gale Forman books, because it’s that sort of romance with a bit of a twist tale.

Me Before You
July 1st
5/5

Technically I finished this this month, but I figured that it should be added on this wrap up as I started it in June and I hadn’t written this when I had finished it. It’s definitely a beautiful book and fans of Marian Keyes novels will probably enjoy this one. I’ve not posted the review yet but I’ll get it up soon. In the mean time, it’s rated 4.30 stars on Goodreads and surely that’s reason enough?
